Authors on Tour will run again during June 2024 with face to face author visits for all year groups. Books will be supplied to schools to accompany their chosen author visits. More information will be available in January 2024.
About our author events
Our amazing author events have been running in Leicester since 2014 and use to consist of a week long, fun-filled event in which a number of highly inspirational children’s authors took over the Tigers Stadium to work with Leicester pupils. Over the week approximately 5000 children had the opportunity to meet and work with a great selection of authors.
Since 2019-20, Whatever it Takes decided to take the event ‘on tour’ giving a larger number of children the experience of an author visit in their own schools. In 2019, 54 schools were visited over 9 days by 20 authors: that’s over 9500 pupils with an author experience!
In 2021 due to lockdown we moved all sessions online where 20 authors delivered 54 sessions over 12 days. 2538 books were purchased and sent into 48 schools. Approximately 12,838 pupils engaged in the author talk sessions and approximately 3771 pupils engaged in the masterclass sessions.
During 2022, we expanded our time frame and took Authors 'on tour' for the whole month of June 2022. 26 authors, delivered 76 sessions over 18 days. 2264 books ordered and sent into 43 schools. Approximately 9396 pupils engaged in the author talk sessions and approximately 3912 pupils engaged in the masterclass sessions.
In June 2023 Authors on Tour returned and a number of highly inspirational children's authors worked face to face with pupils in school - it was another roaring success!
