Thank you to everyone who took part in the Leicester Readathon (Monday 29th September to Sunday 5th October 2025)!
Whatever it Takes organised the Leicester Readathon as a great way to create a buzz around reading at the start of a new academic year, with the aim of reaching 1,000,000 minutes of reading across Leicester! The Leicester Readathon was in conjunction with Read for Good charity (fundraising was optional) and coincided with National Poetry Day.
It was a fantastic week, with 60 participating schools across Leicester and Leicestershire reading a total of 1,867,250 minutes!! WOW!! That is the equivalent of:
- 31,120.8333333 hours
- 1,296.701 days
- 3.55 years!
We also had three terrific author events with Simon Lamb, Joshua Seigal and Manjeet Mann and one storytelling event with Leicester Libraries. Over the four events, an approximate total of 5,400 pupils attended! It was great to have so many schools join us and to hear all of the pupil’s brilliant questions!
Read for Good is grateful for all fundraising.
Thank you to all schools who shared pictures and updates of what you got up to during Readathon® week, we really appreciate all the positive feedback!
