Here at Whatever it Takes, we know that every year is a year of reading! And the National Year of Reading 2026 will further support the great work already happening in Leicester schools.
This exciting campaign seeks to address the decline in reading amongst children, young people and adults. It is a DfE initiative, in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust as the delivery partner.
The National Literacy Trust has created a flexible, year-long programme packed with research-rooted professional learning, as well as unmissable content and events for children and young people.
This is a great opportunity for all schools and early years settings across the UK to embed reading for pleasure in core language, practice and leadership priorities. Together, we can continue to make loud and clear the immediate and life-changing benefits of reading for pleasure for young people and children.
